Bring Civics Lessons Back to the Classroom

We have become an uninspired people, living in a time of diminished expectations. Scandals have eroded the public trust, political corruption tests a weary electorate, and negative campaigning assaults the senses. “Gotcha” journalism, and a press hungry for the salacious and the untoward contribute to the sense that no matter how cynical you are, it’s hard to keep up.All of this malaise is as much a product of our times as it is a contributing cause. We seem to have surrendered our power, as citizens, to expect more or, perhaps most essentially, to be the inspiration that we hope to find.
