This collection of nonfiction essays represents a group of remembrances of living in New Jersey. New Jersey has moved from being a place to a state of mind. Most of these authors are published elsewhere, especially in the area of fiction. New Jersey becomes an awkward backdrop—an urban Yoknapatawpha, the fictional Mississippi home of William Faulkner.
